Can Heironymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?

Poster for Joan Collins movie, Can Heironymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness.
Ramla Bay from the viewpoint of Ta-Mixta Cave.

Merkin, a successful singer approaching middle age, recounts his life story through musical performances on a seashore with his two young children and elderly mother in attendance. The narrative explores his romantic relationships, notably with Polyester Poontang and Mercy Humppe, drawing parallels to a famous literary affair. Throughout the story, he’s accompanied by the devilish Goodtime Eddie Filth and an angelic Presence who interrupts with cryptic humour marking significant events. Newley occasionally breaks character to express his frustrations about playing Merkin to an unseen director.

The statue of Our Lady of Hope, which still stands today in the middle of Ramla, was covered during the filming, upsetting both the clergy and locals, although it does appear to be uncovered in some scenes.
