Why Visit Nadur, Gozo?

Nadur, perched on Gozo’s eastern plateau, and known as Gozo’s ‘Second City’, is a vibrant village blending rich history, local colour, and natural beauty. Famous for its iconic parish church and as the heart of Gozo’s (in)famous Carnival celebrations, Nadur offers a warm community spirit and authentic Gozitan traditions. Its central location means you’re close to stunning beaches like San Blas and Daħlet Qorrot, while modern amenities and a friendly atmosphere make it a comfortable and convenient base for exploring the island. Whether you’re drawn by festivals, countryside walks or a taste of real village life, Nadur Gozo is a truly delightful place to stay.

Where to Stay in Nadur

From boutique hotels, B&Bs and farmhouses, Nadur offers comfortable and authentic stays that are perfect for experiencing Gozo village life. A great base if you want to explore Gozo’s best beaches, like Ramla and San Blas. Explore using the map, or we’ve picked out some of great places below.

  • Boutique Hotels: Quaint Boutique Hotel Nadur, located right in the main square, this charming hotel offers modern amenities with a cosy village vibe.

  • Bed and Breakfasts (B&Bs): Laremi Gozo B&B: A budget-friendly option with sea views. Book early during peak seasons (summer and carnival) as accommodation fills up quickly!

Things to Do in Nadur

There’s no shortage of activities to fill your days in Nadur!

  • Explore Historic Sites: Nadur is home to two historic watchtowers. The seventeenth-century Ta’ Sopu Tower, which was built by the Order of St John and Ta’ Kenuna Tower, a nineteenth-century semaphore tower built by the British.

  • Relax on Some of Gozo’s Best Beaches: Nadur is the gateway to some of the best coastal spots, and definitely some of my personal favourites.

    • San Blas Bay: A secluded beach with red sand; be aware though, it is at the bottom of a very steep path down (and back up!). In the summer, there is usually a jeep offering a cheap ride back up.

    • Daħlet Qorrot Bay: Possibly the cutest cove on Gozo, it’s great for snorkelling in crystal-clear waters. During the summer the kiosk, The Loose Caboose, is open. Be warned, it’s a mobile signal dead zone although you can get Wi-FI when the kiosk is open

    • Ramla Bay: Gozo’s largest sandy beach, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. During the summer it gets pretty crowded, so we recommend getting there early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

I love all three of Nadur’s beaches for different reasons. Ramla is where loggerhead turtles nest every summer. San Blas is beautiful and usually quiet, and Daħlet Qorrot just takes your breath away when you first spot it.

  • Visit the local Market: Wander through the Wednesday morning market for fresh produce and crafts.

  • Experience a Spontaneous Carnival: Time your visit for the beginning of Lent to experience the quirky, spontaneous Nadur Carnival. Unlike any other carnival on Malta, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Or experience a traditional breakfast in a historic building, or a try your hand at bouldering. These are our top picks for some unforgettable activities during your Nadur stay.

Where to Eat in Nadur

If you’re after a taste of traditional Gozitan cuisine, then Nadur is a great place to stay, with lots of options to try out local delicacies at any time of the day.

  • Cafe Andrija: Perfect for a morning pastizzi or pastries with a coffee.

  • Maħraġ Snack Bar: A traditional snack bar in the heart of Nadur that offers hearty English breakfasts and seasonal fresh juices.

  • Maxokk Bakery: an absolute must if you’re a foodie. Dating back to the 1930s and currently run by the third generation of the family, it’s famous for its ftira (a traditional Gozitan pizza-like flatbread). We recommend trying their potato or anchovy-topped versions. It’s well worth the wait!

  • The Fat Rabbit: Rabbit is another must-try dish when you’re on Gozo and this is one of the most popular places to try it. Booking is a must, as is turning up with an appetite as this local favourite serves hearty dishes like rabbit stew and fresh seafood.

  • Fliegu Restaurant: Enjoy Sicilian-inspired cuisine with stunning views of Comino and Malta.

How to Get to and Around Nadur, Gozo

First, you need to get to Gozo! Check out our guide on how to get to Gozo or take our quick quiz on which Gozo Ferry is the right one for you.

  • From the Gozo Ferry Terminal: Nadur is only a 10-minute drive from the Harbour, so either hire a car or book a ride with Uber, eCabs or Bolt or you can pick up a White Taxi at the ferry terminal.

If you prefer to take public transport, the 322 leaves from outside the Gozo Ferry Terminal and travels through the heart of the village. The 303 leaves from the same location and stops on the outskirts. Expect a journey time of 20 to 30 minutes.

  • From Victoria (Rabat): Both the 303 and 302 depart from the Victoria Bus Terminus. The 302 also visits Ramla, so it can get packed in the summer.

When in Nadur, you can easily walk around the village or rent a car to visit other parts of Gozo. Check out our guide on getting around Gozo if you wish to explore a little further.

Ready to Plan Your Trip to Nadur, Gozo?

Now that you know all about what makes Nadur so special, why not start planning your trip today? Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both, this vibrant village has something for everyone.

For even more inspiration:

You can either hire a car, book a taxi or get the bus. Nadur is a 10-15 minute drive from the Harbour, or a 20 – 30 minutes bus ride. The bus can be picked up from outside the Gozo Ferry Terminal and you need the 322 or the 303.

I’d recommend exploring at least one of Nadur’s beaches, especially Ramla if you are visiting in July or August. It is quite possible there will be turtle nests on the beach at that time, and the volunteers are always happy to chat. I’d also visit one of the towers to experience just part of Nadur’s history. Have a look at Things to Do in Nadur for more inspiration.

Nadur is a great location for a family holiday, especially if you want to spend some time on the beach.

Have a look at the section on Dining in Nadur but to get a true taste of Gozitan cuisine, you really should try The Fat Rabbit and Maxokk Bakery.

There are plenty of events in Nadur throughout the year. The most famous is the Spontaneous Carnival, which draws visitors from across Gozo and Malta each year.

Yes. Although be warned, Nadur is at the top of a plateau and the beaches are at the bottom. The walk or cycle down will be fun, the trip back up…less so. They are do-able, just take your time and don’t trying to walk up from San Blas or Ramla during midday in August.

Nadur offers something for every season.

Spring (March–June): Perfect for hiking through lush valleys and enjoying mild weather. Don’t miss Easter celebrations or flower festivals nearby.

Summer (July–September): The high season brings hot weather, vibrant festas, and plenty of beach time. Book accommodations early as it gets busy!

Autumn (October–November): Enjoy wine festivals and olive harvest events. The cooler weather makes it ideal for exploring historical sites.

Winter (December–February): A quieter time with Christmas markets and nativity displays like Bethlehem f’Għajnsielem. Experience a more tranquil side of Gozo.
