The film follows Dmitry (played by Maksim Matveev). A journalist who discovers a time-travel app on his phone. Along with his colleagues, Fimka and Margo, they travel back to the early 19th century.  Specifically to the period when Fort Ross was a significant Russian outpost in Northern California. Their adventures involve encounters with pirates, historical figures, and cultural clashes between Russians and Spanish settlers.

Russian territory in the now United States of America spanned some 1.5 million sq km, from Alaska in the north to Fort Ross in California. It also included some Hawaiian Islands. Russian ownership lasted from 1799 to 1867, when Alaska was sold.
