Titled Hemm Dar il-Qala in Maltese, the film was inspired by the filmmaker’s stay in an old Qala farmhouse. During the visit, several members of the group struggled to open the front door one night, sparking the idea in writer/director Mark Doneo’s mind: ‘What if we could never leave?’
