A thin, long bay surrounded by green cliffs.

While searching for the lost world of Atlantis, Professor Aitken, his son Charles, and Greg Collinson are betrayed by their ship’s crew, who are enticed by the promise of Atlantis’s fabulous treasures. After their diving bell is destroyed, a deep-sea monster attacks the boat, dragging everyone to the ocean floor. There, they encounter the inhabitants of the lost continent—an advanced alien race that enslaves shipwrecked sailors. The aliens aim to conquer the human world to establish a Nazi state, and due to his high IQ, they consider Charles a potential ally. To escape the city surrounded by evil creatures, Greg and the team must seek the help of Delphine, the daughter of a slave.

Movies often change their names but this film went through a few more titles than most. Originally titled Atlantis, to avoid confusion with the 1961 film Atlantis, the Lost Continent, it was renamed 7 Cities of Atlantis. However, after the television series The Man from Atlantis flopped, the executives decided they didn’t want any association with that show either. As a result, the film was retitled Warlords of the Deep. Nevertheless, Columbia Pictures, which had partially financed the film, felt this title was still too close to their other film The Deep, so it was changed once more to Warlords of Atlantis.
