The Assassin

Synopsis
In series one, Julie, a retired assassin living quietly on a Greek island, found her past catching up with her just as her estranged son Edward arrived to visit. Series two picks up after a disastrous trip to Berlin. Julie and Edward aren’t speaking, and nobody will say why. Julie is back at work and dating again, while Edward is on honeymoon with his new wife, Kayla. When the honeymoon goes badly wrong, mother and son have to team up against Spain’s corrupt underworld and try to mend things along the way.
Created and written by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Baptiste), the six-part series was filmed across Malta in spring 2026, with the island standing in for Spain. Gozo makes an appearance too: the trailer includes a shot of Mġarr Harbour.
Locations
Villa Bologna, Attard
Kayla and Edward’s wedding was filmed in the gardens of Villa Bologna, an 18th-century villa in Attard. Fittingly, it began life as a wedding present: Fabrizio Grech built it in 1745 for his daughter’s marriage. The Baroque nymphaeum behind the wedding party is one of the garden’s original features. The villa is still a private family home.
Top Tip: The family-run Italian restaurant in the gardens is the easiest way to see the setting for yourself.
