The Curse of Oak Island is a reality documentary series following brothers Rick and Marty Lagina as they investigate the long-running mystery of a supposed buried treasure on Oak Island off the coast of Nova Scotia. The show tracks their searches, digs and theories as they work with local experts and new technology to try to uncover what, if anything, is hidden there.

Part of the appeal is that the island’s mystery has lasted for more than 200 years, with the series exploring rumours of booby traps, underground tunnels, historical artefacts and a so-called curse tied to the site. It is less about a neat resolution than the ongoing chase, which is why it keeps drawing viewers back season after season.

In season 12, Rick travels to Malta with some of the team to explore the possible connection between artifacts found on Oak Island, the Knights Template and the Knights of Malta. During their trip they visit Fort St. Elmo, Valletta Underground, Gozo’s Citadel and the Silent City of Mdina.
