Where to Stay in Xagħra

Xagħra sits on a wide, flat plateau in Gozo’s north-east, which makes it one of the easiest villages on the island to explore entirely on foot. The Segond Hotel is the biggest and most full-service option in the village, 51 rooms and suites with self check-in, useful if you’re arriving late or just don’t want to coordinate a key handover. Four stars, €.

Cornucopia Hotel is Xagħra’s other four-star option, and the one die-hard Chess fans might recognise: it was used by Check Mate for its first season, welcoming ten Grand Masters to battle. €€.

Il-Logga Boutique Hotel is the smallest and most personal of the three hotels in Xagħra. Located not too far from the road down to Marsalforn, the sea and Victoria skyline views come up in almost every review, alongside the breakfast, which gets mentioned nearly as often. Silla Boutique B&B is a family-run boutique B&B inside a restored 200-year-old farmhouse, four rooms only, including a family room with original patterned tiles and a freestanding bath. Limestone arches, handmade details throughout. €€.

Homestay

L’Għarix Temple Retreat is a 750-year-old villa, reputedly the second-oldest house in Xagħra, built from local limestone and sitting about a hundred metres behind the Ġgantija Temples. Two rooms are available to book, a double and a single, both en-suite, with no breakfast included. €. It also operates as a wellness retreat, so it particularly suits solo travellers or couples looking for something quieter than a standard stay.

Farmhouses & Villas

Kikka Holiday Home, also known as Ta’ Kikka, is a restored two-bedroom traditional farmhouse about a kilometre from Ramla Bay, roughly twelve minutes on foot.
