The Count of Monte Cristo

Synopsis
Edmond Dantès is just 19 years old when he is falsely accused of treason and condemned to rot in the isolated Château d’If — a prison from which no man has ever escaped. After years of suffering and a remarkable friendship with the imprisoned Abbé Faria, Dantès escapes and emerges into the world transformed, armed with a vast fortune and a burning desire for revenge against every man who destroyed his life.
Directed by Billie August and starring Sam Claflin in the lead role, this 2024 TV series is an Italian co-production filmed in English that made its debut at the Rome Film Festival in October 2024 before airing internationally on Channel 4 in the UK and PBS in the United States. It has since found a wide global audience.
Filming took place on Comino, with the cave below Santa Marija Tower on Comino serving as the dramatic sea entrance to Château d’If. This is the same cave used in the 2002 Hollywood film and also as a filming location for La Comtesse de Monte-Cristo, we wait to see if it makes the cut in a third adaptation.
