Where to Watch Sport on Gozo
Gozo and Gozo are football crazy, so it’s easy to find lots of places showing the match, especially if it is Premier League or Serie A. Most bars will also happily put on La Liga, Bundesliga or Ligue 1, as long as it doesn’t clash with a more popular fixture.
For the important tournaments such as UEFA Champions League, the Euros or the World Cup, your problem is picking which spot to watch the game in.
When it comes to Rugby, F1, Tennis, Cricket, Golf or anything else, the trick is either messaging in advance, or popping in the day before to ask. Most places will be happy to accommodate you, though it might just be one screen and without the sound. So it always pays to check that too.

Where Sport Is Always On
While it’s not difficult to find a bar, or restaurant with at least one screen which will most likely be showing a football game . These are the venues built around sport, with multiple screens, a crowd that is there for the match and you will not be the awkward one asking for the sound up.

Packed with Football memorabilia, reasonably priced drinks and good food.
The terrace overlooks Gozo Stadium so you can catch some local footballing action too.
Greens Sports Bar & Restaurant, Kerċem

Roof terrace with island views, overlooks the Kerċem Ajax football pitch and tennis court. Closed Mondays, open from 18:00 Tuesday to Sunday, plus Sunday lunch served 11:30 – 14:00.
Recently refurbished with plenty of screens, and great air conditioning.
Blue Lion Gastro Bar, Victoria
100 Republic Street, Victoria. 2155 9209.
Don’t be fooled by the entrance, which has been described as being like a posh hotel. This bar is part of Teatru Aurora, one of Gozo’s two opera houses, and one of the best place places to watch sport in Victoria, with several large screens. As it is also a band club, the prices for food and drink are good.
It’s open 19:00 onwards Monday to Friday, and from Noon on Saturday and Sundays.

Closed Tuesdays, open noon til late the rest of the week.
Perfect if you want to catch a game before jumping on a ferry back to Malta.
There are also several football club bars on the island that will always be showing something. My favourite is Sannat Lions, which is big, airy and does great pizzas.
Top Tip: For a big fixture, ring ahead and reserve a table. Gozo bars fill quickly for anything involving England, Italy or a final, and the good seats go to the people who thought about it on Thursday.

Triq Sant’ Andrija. 7933 7348. Usually happy to put your choice of sport on the projector screen Organic, Biodynamic Wines and Ccraft beers, small but beautiful, with possibly the poshest toilet of any bar on Gozo. Open daily from 5pm.
Triq il-Menqa. 2702 8299. Shares premises with Bubbles Dive Centre and has 100 inch outside screen and a 50 inch screen inside.
The Castle Bar, Victoria
Castle Hill. 7701 2948. More of a rugby pub but happy to put on almost anything if it doesn’t clash with the egg-chasing, albeit usually without the sound.
Reasonable drinks, great toasties and a very cute cat.
The sensible approach: if a match genuinely matters to you, confirm with the bar on the day rather than the week before, and have a second venue in mind.
Where to Watch Sport on Gozo by Area
Most people plan their evening around where they are staying rather than where the best screen is, which on an island 14 kilometres across is fair enough. The short version is that the dedicated sports bars sit inland, around Xewkija, Kerċem and Victoria, while the resort towns lean towards restaurants, although quite a few of those will have screens. Nowhere on Gozo is more than 20-minutes from anywhere else, so none of this is a real obstacle. It just means that if the match matters, you may be driving past several perfectly good bars to reach one that will definitely have it on.

What You Can Actually Watch on Maltese Television
Visitors often arrive assuming Maltese TV works like British TV. It does not, and the difference matters if you are in self-catering accommodation rather than a bar.
Malta’s two main providers are Melita and GO, both offering sports packages built around Maltese and international coverage. Italian channels are widely available and well watched, which is why Serie A is easier to find here than it is in a British pub.
Bars generally carry more than a domestic subscription would. If you are staying somewhere with a television and hoping to watch from the sofa, check with your host before you count on it. Many holiday lets have a basic package rather than the additional sports tier.
The Unofficial Reality
It is one of the curiosities of watching sport on Gozo that most bars somehow manage to show considerably more than the official channel packages would suggest is possible. It is wisest not to enquire too closely into the technology involved.
What this means for you is practical. Those feeds can lag, stutter or drop out entirely, sometimes at the least forgiving moment. The feed froze during the England V Argentina semi-final during the 2026 world cup seconds before Jude Bellingham scored his second.
So if you hear a cheer from the bar next door before anything has happened on your screen, you now know why. Do not check your phone. It’s also wise to switch any notifications off for the duration to avoid spoilers from friends and rival fans.
Major Tournaments on Gozo
Tournament season changes the island. Bars that are quiet in February put extra screens out, kitchens stay open later and bars that usually close that day will be open.
The World Cup: The 2026 tournament was the busiest the island has been for football in years, with plenty of places staying open into the early hours to show the later kick-offs . With the 2030 FIFA World Cup taking place in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, the time difference will be between two hours and non-existent, making the games much more accessible.
The Euros: Watch for Euro 2028, hosted by the UK and Ireland. Kick-off times will be kind, the British and Irish visitor numbers will be high and Gozo bars will feel it.
The Six Nations: Reliably well shown, and a good excuse for a long Saturday lunch. February and March are quiet months on the island, so you will rarely struggle for a table.
Champions League and Europa League: Widely available, midweek, easy.
Top Tip: Finals and semi-finals are worth booking. Group stage matches almost never are, unless they involve Italy or England.
Niche Sports and One-Off Events
This is where the island’s generous character shows. Someone here recently wanted the semi-final of the European Rugby Champions Cup, which is not a fixture any Gozo bar puts on the board by default, especially as it was between two French teams. They got it, because they popped in a few hours before and asked politely.
That is the pattern for nearly everything beyond Premier League or Serie A. The event is usually available. It just needs requesting.
Rugby union: Six Nations is easy. Champions Cup and Challenge Cup knockouts, autumn and summer internationals and Rugby World Cup matches are all findable with notice.
Cricket: The Ashes, Test series and the T20 and ODI World Cups. Time zones are the real issue rather than availability. An Australian Ashes tour means breakfast cricket, and few Gozo bars are open at five in the morning, so a good streaming setup at your accommodation may serve you better.
Racing: Cheltenham, the Grand National and Royal Ascot all get shown, and draw a crowd.
Darts and snooker: The World Darts Championship falls over Christmas and New Year, when the island is at its most sociable. The Crucible in spring is quieter but findable.
Tennis and golf: Wimbledon is easy, particularly in the afternoons. The Open and the Ryder Cup take a little more asking.
Boxing, UFC and F1: Grand prix weekends are simple. The big fights are pay-per-view, but it’s usually not a problem for a bar to find them.
GAA and NFL: Both have a following among visitors and both are gettable with warning. Neither is a safe bet without it.
Local Football on Gozo
Gozo has its own football scene, played at Gozo Stadium in Xewkija or Kerċem Ajax Stadium, organised by the Gozo Football Association and with almost every village having a team
They compete in the Gozitan league, and matches are cheap, informal and worth an evening if you want to see the island’s sporting life rather than watch someone else’s.
